Custom Trade Show Props: Product Replicas and Branded Displays

A product photo can explain what something looks like. A physical model can help a visitor understand its size, shape or relationship to another part. Custom trade show props give your booth a way to show an idea when bringing the actual product is impractical or when the important feature is hard to see.

Loot Haven 3D in Columbia, Missouri can review custom FDM printed props and display pieces from your files, sketches or reference images. The right project brief starts with what you want visitors to understand, followed by the size, appearance and handling requirements.

Choose the message before choosing the model

Pick one main job for the prop. Is it a visual replica for a conversation, a larger model that makes a small detail visible, or a branded piece that gives the booth a clear identity? Trying to include every product feature can make a demonstration harder to follow.

Stratasys describes scaled models and cutaway models as exhibition applications. Those are useful starting points for a display brief. They do not mean every shape or mechanism is suitable for every printer. Your actual model, finish and deadline need a project review.

Display idea Question it can help answer
Scaled product replica What does the product look like when the real item is too large to bring?
Enlarged feature model Where is the detail a visitor should notice?
Separated components How do the main pieces relate to one another?
Logo or branded tabletop piece Where should people look when approaching the booth?

Set the scale and the viewing distance

Give the desired finished dimensions rather than saying only “make it bigger.” If the model uses a scale, include both the original dimensions and the scale you want. A tiny feature may disappear when the entire product is reduced, so indicate which details matter and which can be simplified.

Think about the distance from the aisle to your table. A model meant to catch attention from several feet away needs a different detail plan from one passed around during a conversation. A separate close-up piece can be more useful than making the whole prop unusually large. Send a rough booth layout if the prop needs to share space with signs, monitors or merchandise.

Decide whether people will touch it

A static display and a handled demonstration deserve different design discussions. Explain whether staff will lift the model, visitors will pass it around, or it will remain attached to a base. Point out delicate features, removable pieces and areas people are likely to grab.

A printed replica should not be presented as a functioning product unless that function has actually been designed and tested. If its purpose is to demonstrate an arrangement, label it accordingly. A visual model can still be useful without making claims about the performance of the final product.

Make the finish part of the quote

FDM prints can have visible layer lines and assembly seams. Tell us whether a clearly printed model is acceptable or whether the presentation requires additional finishing. Identify the most visible faces and include your approved logo artwork. Brand colors should be discussed as a target, with available material and finish options confirmed during quoting.

Browse the project gallery for a sense of printed surfaces. If the job is mainly about holding your actual products, the retail display stand guide can help you build a more specific brief.

Include transport and setup in the plan

Measure the container you intend to use and describe how often the piece will travel. A display that looks excellent on a table may be inconvenient if it cannot fit through the case opening. Discuss whether the design should separate into parts and who will assemble it at the event.

Keep the event date separate from the date you need the prop in hand. Allow time to inspect the piece, practice the demonstration and resolve any assembly questions. If shipping is needed, include the destination in the initial request. If pickup is more practical, ask about an arrangement when the schedule is confirmed.

How to order custom trade show props

Include reference images or a 3D file, finished dimensions, quantity, display purpose, finish expectations and your delivery deadline. Mark the details that must remain accurate and explain where simplification is acceptable. See our model preparation guide if you already have a file.

The printing cost guide explains why design work, size and finishing change a quote. When you have your brief, request a custom trade show prop quote with Loot Haven 3D.

More ordering questions

Can a trade show prop include a removable cutaway panel?

Request a cutaway design review with the exact feature visitors should see. Specify which components remain fixed and whether staff or visitors remove the panel. The attachment needs evaluation separately from the exterior appearance.

Can I order a trade show prop with spare replacement parts?

Identify the parts most likely to be handled or lost and request spares in the initial quote. Keep the approved revision so the spare matches the model taken to the show.

Can a trade show display be designed around my shipping case?

Provide the internal dimensions, opening dimensions and any foam already in the case. The opening can be more restrictive than the storage space. Include those measurements before approving a model that must travel repeatedly.

Can a printed exhibit prop pass a venue flame-rating requirement?

Do not assume it meets one. Obtain the venue requirement and provide it before ordering. A material name or decorative finish is not proof that the complete prop has the required certification; another fabrication approach may be needed.

Can a trade show prop be redesigned for several events?

Discuss removable branding panels or interchangeable product modules at the design stage. Provide the expected configurations and check that each fits the same base and transport arrangement. That review is easier before a single-purpose prop is finished.

Will a larger product replica need visible seams?

It may be made from joined sections depending on size and geometry. Prusa describes splitting printed models. Ask where the joins will sit and whether the agreed finish includes blending the visible seams.
